The 32-year-old Briton, who has a tattoo of Adolf Hitler, stabbed Nahom Hagos, a migrant from Eritrea, in an act that “undoubtedly constituted a terrorist attack,” stated the judge from the Leicester Court. Parslow was sentenced to serve a minimum of 22 years and 8 months in prison before the possibility of reviewing the sentence for potential leniency.
During the trial, which began in October last year and lasted three weeks, Parslow claimed he attempted to kill Hagos as a form of “protest” against illegal immigration.
The attack was carefully planned, and Parslow “had been preparing for weeks, during which he researched hotels housing asylum seekers, purchased a knife in the U.S., and wrote a manifesto,” stated the United Kingdom’s Counter-Terrorism Police in a statement.
Parslow was arrested shortly after the attack by West Mercia Police on a canal-side path, where he was carrying the weapon used in the crime and attempting to post a “terrorist manifesto,” in which he claimed he had “just fulfilled his duty to England” by attempting to “exterminate” his victim.
A search of Parslow’s residence uncovered several weapons, including an ax, a knife, a baseball bat, and far-right extremist materials. According to the judge, these items contributed to Parslow developing “a neo-Nazi mindset that fueled his twisted, violent, and racist views.”
During the trial sessions, Hagos testified that the attack caused him “unbearable pain,” stating that he had “lived a happy life” before the incident and now feels “alone and unsafe on the streets.”
Parslow was also found guilty of a sexual offense and two additional counts of electronic communications intended to cause distress and anxiety, which were unrelated to the case.
